Eight Nigerian startups have been selected to take part in a pitching event hosted at the Nigerian Economic Summit, in a bid to help them access funding and mentorship.

The 23rd Nigerian Economic Summit began in Abuja yesterday under the theme “Opportunities, Productivity & Employment: Actualizing the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan”.

It features for the first time a startup pitching event aimed at providing a platform for businesses to pitch ideas and access funding from venture capitalists and investors.

A total of 263 startups applied to take part via the VC4A platform, which have now been narrowed down to the eight pitching at the event.

They include Africa-focused e-library Academix, cloud accounting startup Accounteer, ed-tech startups Edusko and Insight Africa, campus accommodation finder MyPadi and fintech startup Piggybank.ng.

Two non-tech startups are also pitching, namely peanut manufacturer L&L Foods and condiments producer Ojoro Kitchen. The selected startups will each have five minutes to pitch to prospective investors and 10 minutes to answer questions from them.
