Organisers of the annual Africa Tech Festival, taking place in Cape Town on November 14-16, have announced the top 10 finalists of the AfricaIgnite Pitch Competition, who will battle it out to represent the continent in the Startup World Cup on December 1 this year.

The AfricaIgnite Pitch Competition Final takes place at Africa Tech Festival on November 16, and will see selected ventures pitch in front of a crowd of founders, tech leaders and investors.

The winning venture will be selected to represent Africa at the Startup World Cup in San Francisco in December, which will bring together more than 70 regional winners. A US$1 million grand prize is available to be won there.

Five of the selected ventures are from Kenya, namely payments platform AsaanaPay, beauty startup Tausi App, VR-based educational content provider Ukwenza VR, homecare platform BenaCare, and payments service Kyanda Africa.

Four are from South Africa, in the shape of Delta Scan, a specialist engineering inspection, digitisation and BIM company; Oneway Connect, a job matching and recruitment software; Hippocampus Education, an adaptive tutoring Facebook Messenger bot; and Gradlinc, which helps prepare graduates for the workplace and connects them with opportunities.

The list is completed by Nigeria’s Bus54, a mobility technology company providing a platform to aggregate intercity bus transportation in Africa, allowing passengers to search, compare, book, and manage their journeys online.
