Nigerian mobility startup Treepz has partnered insurtech Octamile to launch Treepz Care, an insurance programme that revolutionises travel and mobility by offering comprehensive coverage and peace of mind to Treepz’s community of guests and hosts.

Founded in 2019 and known as Plentywaka until its September 2021 rebrand, Treepz operates a digital platform allowing passengers to book daily rides along fixed routes. It also serves as an aggregator for bus travel companies across dozens of cities in Nigeria, allowing transport operators to replace manual servicing and ticketing with digitalised offerings and services.

Disrupt Africa reported in February Treepz had launched operations in Kenya following strategic investment deals to raise additional US$1.2 million in funding over the previous 12 months.

Octamile, meanwhile, is making insurance solutions accessible and hassle-free, and is trusted by B2C companies like Gokada, Terminal Africa, Traccsystems, Messenger, DriveMe, Traction, Spreentar, and Kredibank, who rely on its API or widget to unlock limitless possibilities for businesses and customers alike.

The two companies have now partnered to launch Treepz Care, which encompasses various insurance services tailored for both guests and hosts. These include guest protection, host protection, driver accident insurance, and benefits.

“We are witnessing immense growth in the travel and mobility sectors as more people seek to explore places both near and far and as they embrace flexible means of transportation in response to changing lifestyle demands. Its goal is to build Africa’s largest car-sharing marketplace for car rentals, and at the heart of this innovation is its commitment to safety, which includes comprehensive insurance coverage for both guests and hosts,” said Onyeka Akumah, CEO of Treepz.

“We are delighted to partner with Octamile, a company that has established itself as a leader in the digital insurance industry over the years, to introduce Treepz Care, its insurance programme designed for the users of its marketplace – both guests and hosts.”
