Nigerian agricultural commodity trading platform Farmties has emerged winner at the She Leads Africa (SLA) accelerator Demo Day, taking home the NGN2 million (US$5,540) investment prize.

Disrupt Africa reported in September 20 Nigerian startups across a variety of sectors were selected to take part in the Lagos-based 2017 SLA Accelerator, from among over 200 applicants.

The three-month accelerator programme – hosted together with the Work in Progress! Alliance, OCP, Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB), Cointreau and Intel – was specially designed to identify, support and fund the next generation of Nigeria’s brightest entrepreneurs.

The accelerator’s culminating Demo Day took place on Monday (November 20), with the top three startups receiving cash prizes for their businesses.

In first place Farmties received NGN2 million (US$5,540), for its agricultural commodity trading online marketplace.

The second place – and prize of NGN1 million (US$2,770) – went to African-inspired furniture and homeware manufacturing company Taeillo.

Greymate Care came in third place, for its online platform linking vetted caregivers with families in need of support for their elderly or disabled relatives.  The startup received NGN500,000 (US$1,385).
