Kenyan startups can now apply to pitch at the Nairobi edition world-touring pitching competition Seedstars World, with the winner to advance to the global finals in Switzerland which carries prizes of up to US$1 million in equity investment.

Early-stage startups competition Seedstars World has been hosting local events across Africa over the past months, and has already picked winners in Mozambique, Tunisia, Tanzania, South Africa, Uganda, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Senegal, Cameroon, Rwanda, Angola, Morocco and Zimbabwe.

The winner of each local event secures a spot at the global finals, to be held in Switzerland in April 2018; where startups from around the world will go head-to-head to win up to US$1 million in equity funding.

The Nairobi competition will take place on November 10, at Nailab; with the top 10 applicants to be invited to pitch live at the event.

The winner will be selected by the panel of expert judges, comprising Claudia Makadristo, regional manager for Africa at Seedstars World; John Kimani, developer ecosystem programme manager at Google; Somet Kipchilat, technical evangelist at Microsoft 4Afrika; and Kamal Bhattacharya, chief innovation officer at Safaricom.

To be eligible, startups must be less than two years old; have received no more than US$500,000 in funding to date; and must have a minimum viable product ideally with previous traction.  Submissions need to demonstrate they have the potential to scale regionally and globally.

Applications can be made here, until November 2.

The event is also open to the public; and those wishing to attend must register in advance.
