Urbantech co-working space set to launch in Cairo

A new co-working space, KMT House, is set to launch in Cairo, Egypt, with the aim of encouraging innovation in the country’s nascent urbantech sector.

Urbantech refers to the tech innovations and solutions being developed by entrepreneurs to make cities sustainable, livable and resilient. KMT House aims to provide a home for entrepreneurs who are striving to “make the city work.”

The new space is the brainchild of existing Cairo-based co-working space District Spaces and urban news platform progrss, and is set to officially open its doors in the city’s Maadi suburb in January.

“Since our launch back in 2011, we have been working with a clear vision and deep commitment to build communities of innovators and doers – in all domains – who are looking to disrupt the status quo. Through this strategic partnership with progrss to launch KMT house as the first urbantech hub in the region, we will be able to materialize and strengthen our community’s impact in more urban fields to re-imagine the city where our community lives,” says Mazen Helmy, founder of District Spaces.

The project is being supported by Swiss non-profit organisation Drosos Foundation; which focuses on helping people in difficult circumstances to live a life of dignity through projects in Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, Switzerland, and Germany.

The Foundation said that by participating in the launch of KMT House, it hopes to contribute to building an enabling environment for entrepreneurship in Egypt, and support young innovators in working towards the country’s development goals.
