Ethiopia’s Gebeya launches developer marketplace platform in UK

Ethiopian IT services marketplace Gebeya has launched in the United Kingdom (UK), aiming to increase the accessibility of software developers in Europe at competitive market rates.

Disrupt Africa reported last year on the launch of Gebeya, which aims to graduate 5,000 students in Ethiopia over the next five years. The startup also launched in Kenya in January, as well as Silicon Valley.

It has now expanded to the UK, where, according to Accenture, there is a need for 745,000 more workers with digital skills this year alone.

Gebeya’s developers marketplace aims to satisfy this growing demand for qualified digital talent across Europe by enabling organisations, SMEs and entrepreneurs to hire top software developers on-demand.

“We are excited with our success so far but our growth reflects the increased demand for digital talent in the global market. In this regard, we have created a self sustainable ecosystem that trains, hires, and incubates the best of African talent so as to produce world class software developers and mitigate the global demand for digital talent,’’ said Amadou Daffe, co-founder and chief executive officer (CEO) at Gebeya.

The developers marketplace will match customers with highly skilled, certified and multilingual software developers to develop innovative technological solutions and improve development efficiency.

In order to maintain quality, software developers will have to undergo an intensive six-month period of hands-on practical training that focuses on cutting-edge technologies. Only upon graduation will they be placed on the platform.
