Eventplanner.ng sees traction with digital marketplace

Nigerian startup Eventplanner.ng is a marketplace that helps customers plan their events online by providing them with access to a wide range of event vendors.

Launched in the middle of last year, Eventplanner.ng connects people hosting events such as birthday parties and weddings with a whole range of suppliers, from caterers, to decorators, to DJs.

Even at such an early stage, it currently has 350 vendors listed, and has facilitated around 85 service requests via the platform. The startup charges vendors a percentage of all successful transactions made through Eventplanner.ng, which facilitates booking and payment.

Founder Amaka Epoh launched the startup based on her own experiences planning various weddings.

“I discovered there was a void to be filled in this event space. In a space worth US$20 billion in Nigeria, there is still anxiety in planning events due to difficulties in sourcing for vendors within your location, and the price,” she told Disrupt Africa.

“We identified the need for a platform to easily carry out these things by bringing every vendor required in planning an event online, and creating the easiest and cheapest way for customers to book event-related services.”

There are competitors in this space in Nigeria, but Epoh says the size of the market means there is enough room, while her startup’s “continuous innovation” will differentiate it.

Self-funded thus far, Eventplanner.ng is looking for investment to help it scale. Currently operating only in Nigeria, Epoh said the startup will expand to Ghana next year.

“After that we will expand further to other African countries,” she said.
