The British Embassy in Cairo has partnered the Flat6Labs accelerator to host a hackathon for social entrepreneurs aimed at finding innovative ways of solving problems in the fields of recycling, energy, and sustainable farming.

The British Embassy and Flat6Labs said Hackathon was an important part of the British Embassy’s Inspire Egypt programme that encourages ambitious young people that want to make a difference in their society.

“We are not looking for programmers to sit down to code an application or a website. We are innovative creatives to solve a problems that many of us face every day,” the partners said.

“Instead, we want you to stand up and tell us about your ideas to solve the real world environmental problems of the future, in an innovative and business-friendly way. We want to hear your thoughts about a problem we face, and your solution to it. We want to help you take your ideas and turn them into viable business models. We want to give you the tools you need to make your ideas grow into successful businesses: mentoring, business skills, and the confidence to succeed.”

Interested parties can apply online with a detailed explanation of how they can solve a problem in one of the three sectors, with 10 teams to be selected to attend a two-day workshop that will provide them with the tools they need to convert their ideas into successful businesses.

At the end of the event, they will present the finished product in front of a panel of judges who will announce the winners.
