African startups working in the field of legal justice innovation are invited to apply for the HiiL Innovating Justice Accelerator, which offers up to EUR20,000 (US$21,500) in equity-free funding and provides business development services.

Non-profit legal research and advisory firm HiiL has been increasingly active in Africa in recent years, most recently providing eight African startups with a share of EUR160,000 (US$176,000) in grant funding through its Innovating Justice challenge.

The HiiL Innovating Justice Accelerator is searching for innovations that create rights awareness, provide access to legal services or dispute resolution and improve efficiency and transparency in the existing legal system.

Entrepreneurs with a team actively working on a justice innovation or who have a strong idea are invited to apply. Successful applicants will receive up to EUR20,000 in equity-free funding, acceleration, international exposure, and access to an international network of mentors.

HiiL has identified a few key “pain points” across the world, in which areas it particularly encourages applications. These are Crime and Law Enforcement, Family Justice, Neighbour Disputes, Employment Justice, Migration Justice and Land Disputes.

The deadline for applications is June 30.
