Kenya’s Ma3Route launches new transport app

Kenyan crowdsourced transit and navigation startup Ma3Route has launched a new version of its Android mobile app, improving traffic searches and providing users with a live map.

Currently available in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu, Ma3Route provides a transport-focused web, mobile app and SMS service allowing urban travellers to share and access real-time information about traffic, road conditions, navigation and mobility services near them.

The startup said its revamped application allows all road users to get the right information, in the right way, at the right time, so they can enjoy a better commuting experience within their city. It also makes it easier for people to share updates with the rest of the online community.

“With this new version of our free mobility service, it’s never been faster to share and access useful real-time information on road conditions in Kenya, and to get to where we need to go more efficiently,” the Ma3Route team said.

The app introduces a more user-friendly interface along with a number of new features, including an improved traffic search functionality that allows traffic updates to be filtered by road name, proximity and timeframe. If they enable their location, users can get the traffic alerts that are relevant to them, including through voice.

Ma3Route has also added a live traffic map, making it possible to visualise the various categories of posts as they happen. User posting has also been streamlined, allowing users to share traffic updates that include category, description, picture and location, making their contribution even more contextual.

Live updates are displayed according to the various road conditions – traffic jam, accident or general information. In addition, a dynamic view of road traffic is available for selected areas.
