On-demand home services mobile application getTOD has launched in Cape Town, offering homeowners a quick and reliable way to find repair serviceman such as plumbers, electricians and locksmiths.

getTOD is available now in Cape Town’s CBD, Southern Suburbs and Atlantic Seaboard, and will be expanding to the rest of South Africa in the coming months.

The free iOS and Android app allows users to connect with service providers using location-based tracking and supplier availability in real time.

“The application is the first of its kind and truly on-demand application, which allows its users to cut out the uncertainty and frustration that typically comes with finding a home repair supplier,” said co-founder Shannon Mackrill.

“Our goal was to disrupt an industry that is fraught with irregular pricing, poor service levels and inconsistent quality in a way that sets new benchmarks for service delivery and pricing.”

To use the app, homeowners log their need on the application, sharing their location and requirements, and a service provider in the area will accept the job. The homeowner can track the service provider’s progress until they arrive at the job, effecting payment via a pre-loaded credit card.

getTOD offers an insured service to consumers and provides 24-hour emergency services seven days a week. It performs background checks on all service providers, while it also has standardised prices. Clients can rate the service they receive from the supplier.

The app has received substantial backing from a United Kingdom (UK) investor, and already has in excess of 20 suppliers registered.

Mackrill said a core point to the app and the industry was its on-demand functionality.

“getTOD is truly on-demand, this is not a term we use loosely. If we want to assist industries that are notorious for their unreliability, the app has to be able to function in real-time. We are not a directory,” he said.

“The app allows users to cut out the uncertainty and frustration of dealing with plumbers, locksmiths and electricians and connects the customer directly with credible and pre-screened suppliers, who are certified and trustworthy.”
