Ugandan startup The Medical Concierge Group (TMCG) has been selected to participate in the 13th Blackbox Connect accelerator programme to be held in Silicon Valley.

Disrupt Africa reported in September applications were invited from startups worldwide, for the bi-annual accelerator programme, which brings together 16 startups from across the world for an immersive two-week programme involving meetings and workshops with entrepreneurs, investors, experts and executives.

The second programme of the year – the 13th edition to date – begins on November 30, with one Ugandan startup selected among the 16 successful applicants.

TMCG comprises a portfolio of innovative healthcare services, including 24/7 doctor-on-call call centres, mobile clinical services, and mobile pharmacies; while the startup also develops a range of healthcare apps and enterprise software solutions.

Launched in Uganda, the startup currently also operates in Kenya.

The two-week accelerator culminates in a Demo Day on December 11, when startups will pitch live to an audience of entrepreneurs, industry leaders and investors.

Blackbox Connect is only open to non-US startups, with African startups often performing well in the application process. In the first programme of the year, held in January, two startups from Uganda and Egypt were selected to join the cohort.
