Zambian innovation hub BongoHive has been awarded a grant by the Queen’s Young Leaders Programme, which it will use to roll out a new entrepreneurial training programme early next year.
The Queen’s Young Leaders Programme aims to support exceptional young people from across the Commonwealth through its grants and awards programme, with Disrupt Africa reporting in January 27 Africans were among 60 young people recognised by the first ever Queen’s Young Leaders Award.
Aside from these awards, the programme has also made grants to a number of organisations, each one of which it said is improving the lives of young people in their country by providing opportunities to learn new skills and enter employment, as well as giving them a voice in their communities.
BongoHive – which is already a recipient of grant money from Indigo Trust – will use the funding to launch a new exciting entrepreneurship training programme in January of next year.
The hub has been busy of late, in January relocating to larger offices after leaving its home of two years, saying the move will allow it to better serve the needs of Lusaka’s startup community.
In April it revamped its membership plan to include White, Yellow and Black member schemes.
“We encourage an open and collaborative working style whether you are shaping an idea, contracting as a freelancer or working on a startup as a small team, we have a membership plan to accommodate your needs,” BongoHive said.
“Our membership rates, where applicable, are purposely competitively priced as we aim to attract Lusaka’s most promising ideas and minds.”
