Cameroonian video game studio Kiro’o Games has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the completion of its first African-themed game, securing 10 per cent of its funding target in the first 24 hours.
Launched in early 2014, the Kiro’o Games studio has been working on its PC epic, “Aurion: Legacy of the Kori-Odan” ever since. The game is set to include numerous hand-drawn African characters featuring in 20 hours’ worth of fantasy-combat gameplay.
In December last year, Disrupt Africa reported Kiro’o Games decided to sell 300 of its 1,000 shares to external investors in a bid to raise funds for the on-going development of its first commercial game.
By April, the studio closed sales of its shares, having raised almost XAF120 million (US$209,000).
Kiro’o has now turned to crowdfunding to raise a further EUR40,000 (US$44,950) on the Kickstarter platform by October 20.
Within the first 24 hours of the campaign going live, the studio has already secured 10 per cent of its target – with EUR4,300 (US$4,832) already pledged.
Founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of Kiro’o Guillaume Madiba previously told Disrupt Africa he estimated the total cost of developing the Aurion game will be US$1 million on completion, but said this is roughly one quarter of the cost charged by US and Europe-based game studios.
