Barclays and Craft Silicon have been named as two of the major sponsors of the approaching Nairobi Innovation Week, which takes place next month under the theme “Innovate and Prosper”.

Disrupt Africa reported in April Innovation Week, organised by the University of Nairobi, had been set for August 5-7, bringing together government, academia, startups and other stakeholders for plenary sessions, policy discussions, and exhibitions of inventions and innovations by individual innovators, startups and organisations.

The Innovation Week Committee has now confirmed the sponsorships by Barclays and Craft Silicon, which funds raised to go towards effective preparations for the event, which is hoped to become an annual one.

Speakers will include Dr Fred Matiangi, cabinet secretary at the Ministry of ICT, Langdon Morris, co-founder and senior partner at InnovationLabs, and Saul Singer, journalist and co-author of “Start-up Nation”.

Registration can be made on the Innovation Week website, while Disrupt Africa reported in April the University of Nairobi and its business incubator C4DLab announced a call for papers for Innovation Week.

“Are you passionate about technology and innovation? Do you have a disruptive innovation that you so pine to showcase on an international platform? Or do you just want to witness radical and practical innovation? Or do you merely want to network and might be to rub shoulders with the high and mighty of technology and innovation? The occasion is here!” C4DLab said.

“All in all, the Nairobi Innovation Week will have achieved, among other things, special engagement with policy makers on the growth and support of innovation ecosystem in Kenya, showcase of spectacular innovations and inventions, creation of useful linkages, launch of important journals, and increase of innovator, university and partner visibility.”
