DEMO Africa to host Investor Summit

This year’s edition of the DEMO Africa startup event will once again play host to a dedicated Investor Summit, bringing together investor groups from across the continent as well as interested parties from abroad.

DEMO Africa announced this year’s event will feature an Investor Summit under the theme of “The African Opportunity: Angel Investing in Africa”, to take place on September 23.

Last year’s Investor Summit resulted in the formation of the African Business Angel Network (ABAN) – a success which has prompted the Investor Summit to become a repeated fixture at the annual startup event, DEMO said.

The Summit will bring together investors from Cairo Angels, Lagos Angels Network, Ivoire Business Angels, Viktoria Angels, Ghana Angel Investors Network, Africa Angels Network, Cameroon Angels, Silicon Cape and other groups, to exchange best practices, share lessons learned and set the road map for the future.

Experts from InfoDev, the World Bank, African Development Bank, a delegation of US investors, and a delegation from The European Trade Association for Business Angels, Seed Funds and Early Stage Market Players (EBAN) are also expected to attend the Summit.

“The summit will provide an unprecedented opportunity to network with the leading opinion leaders in Africa’s early stage investment space, and a unique opportunity for accessing the latest investment methods and best practices from sourcing deals through valuation to exits,” said Tomi Davies, ABAN president.

DEMO said the schedule of the Investor Summit will focus on knowledge exchange between the continent’s various angel investors and angel investor networks, and will discuss a roadmap of the future of angel investing in Africa.

The programme will consist of speakers, case studies and fireside chats.

Disrupt Africa reported this year’s DEMO Africa will return to Lagos, Nigeria, for the second consecutive year, having moved from DEMO’s original host city of Nairobi, Kenya.  Startups are invited to apply to compete at the event online. Applications close at the end of May.
