Kenyan startup incubator iHub has partnered the German Goethe Institute to launch a programme to fund digital art projects.
The Goethe Institute and iHub are looking to fund creatives who use technology in their work, whether in conceptual or presentation processes.
A programme will run in the next few months with funding provided for the production that recipients will be expected to produce in the same period. All works should fall in the category of digital art.
“Digital art, in this context, is considered as artistic work that uses digital technology as an essential part of the creative or presentation process,” the partners said.
Applicants will be required to write a proposal of art works themed on technology and art, dealing with the topic “Kenya’s “Future”” and in areas such as animation, music visualisation, net poetry, interactive installations and gaming.
Successful applicants will be funded to produce their works, which will go on exhibition at the end of a given period.
Interested parties are invited to attend a gathering on March 21 between 1pm and 4pm, which will bring together engineers, artists and techies to meet and share ideas and will also mark the official launch of the call of applications.
