Hotels.ng has announced it will sponsor the first hackathon in northern Nigeria, HackJos, aimed at encouraging developers to come up with solutions for the region’s problems.

The hackathon is a free, three-day event which will see over 200 coders gather in March in Jos, Plateau State, to combine their talents to build new applications.

Teams will present their completed applications at the end of the hackathon for a chance to win prizes, which include three nights of free hotel accommodation courtesy of Hotels.ng.

The online hotel booking startups is looking to use the platform to recruit software engineers into its team of developers.

“From the pool of participants who will take part in the HackJos Hackathon, Hotels.ng seeks to attract developers who are looking to have a large impact at a growing company and work with a high performance team, working side by side talented colleagues on hard problems attending to a large user base of customers both within and outside Nigeria,” the company said.

Hotels.ng said it is interested in participants that demonstrate an ability to think innovatively and organise, clarify and communicate ideas succinctly and accurately, while also being fast to respond to issues and paying strong attention to detail.

HackJos will feature a 30-day pre-hackathon workshop, with engineers on hand to help answer questions from participants and set them up for success.
