Cape Town-based coding accelerator codeX is set to host a free two-week bootcamp for young South African women from Monday, January 26, aimed at encouraging more females to take up coding.
Disrupt Africa reported last year on codeX, a venture put together by co-founders Elizabeth Gould, Michael Jordaan and Daniel Weber, bidding to tackle Africa’s lack of trained developers and create a new breed of entrepreneurs through its apprenticeship-style coding courses.
The free two-week programme, which will take place at the University of Cape Town (UCT), is aimed at teaching the technical and business skills required to create basic web pages.
“They will use these skills to tackle local challenges and build a real site or app for a simulated client and pitch their solution,” said Gould.
“The programme shows that IT is for women, that coding is fun, that it can be used for business and social impact and that it can be a great career path.”
