Jumia expands Kenyan operations with Nakuru plant

Pan-African e-commerce platform Jumia has expanded its operations in Kenya by launching its third logistics centre in the country in the town of Nakuru, which will serve the entire Rift Valley region.

The hub is located at the Uchumi Business Centre, with Jumia saying the move comes as a result of a growing customer base in the region and the success of the hub it opened in Mombasa in September last year.

“We are shipping products nationwide from Nairobi to serve our customers across Kenya. Now with an office and warehouse in Nakuru, we will be able to provide a more convenient shopping experience in the Rift Valley region besides creating job opportunities for the area,” said Parinaz Firozi, managing director (MD) of Jumia Kenya.

“It continues efforts to be physically close to our customers and to build strong customer relationships. Further expansions are planned in Kenya .”

Jumia has been on an expansion push across Africa of late, with Disrupt Africa reporting last month the Africa Internet Group (AIG)-owned company Jumia had expanded into Tanzania, taking the number of African countries in which it is present to nine.

This followed its latest funding round in November, which saw Jumia secure EUR120 million (US$149.5 million) in funding and promising accelerated growth on the back of the investment.
