SAP Skills for Africa yesterday graduated 63 of its second round of students in Kenya, after they underwent an eight-week training course in Financial Accounting and Business Intelligence.
The programme, which was launched in 2012 and is sponsored by the ICT Authority and SAP East Africa, sponsors SAP certification training, and is aimed at bridging the gap between the demand for skills and the demand for meaningful jobs.
Yesterday’s graduation event was held at the University of Nairobi and attended by Ministry of ICT principal secretary Joseph Tiampati, as well as SAP East Africa managing director Andrew Waititu.
“While the government and the private sector have invested heavily in ICT infrastructure, there has been comparatively very little investment in human resources required to design, develop and operate this infrastructure and its associated applications and systems,” said Tiampati.
“High-end skills are required in order to facilitate economic growth and help us achieve the vision of the ICT Master Plan.”
