Get in the Ring set for Joburg

The Johannesburg Final of global startup pitching competition Get in the Ring (GITR) is set to take place on September 8, with startups to pitch head-to-head for a place in the global finals.

The GITR competition sees startups across the world compete in local heats of one-on-one live pitch battles, in front of an audience of “fans” – including industry experts, corporate representatives, and investors – and judges.

Each “battle” is divided into five sections, and startups get 30 seconds to pitch about each section: team, achievements, business model and market, financials and proposition, and freestyle.

A panel of judges and the audience votes for the local winner, who wins a chance to pitch at the global finals to be held in March 2017.

The competition is open to any startup with an innovative and scalable idea and model; in operation for no longer than eight years. Entrepreneurs must be able to pitch confidently in English.

The Johannesburg-based competition is set to take place on September 8, with applications currently open here.

A number of other African regional heats are planned for later in the year, around the continent.

Disrupt Africa reported Newtech Rail and Adfire Creative M3dia’s iMORPH3D emerged the winners from the Johannesburg regional final in the last round of the competition, taking places at the global event.
