A number of East African tech startups have been named as finalists for this year’s edition of the Sankalp Award, which will offer winners access to Intellecap’s group of investors and ongoing support.

The winners of the Sankalp Award will be announced at the Sankalp Africa Summit on February 25, with the 13 finalists having been selected from 500 applicants.

Tech startups represented in the final are Kenyan micro-credit fintech startup 4G Capital Investments, Kenyan mobile payments startup Beyonic, Kenyan taxi app Maramoja, Ugandan e-supply chain management Metajua, Kenyan social e-commerce app mookh, Kenyan PoS startup BambaPOS, and Kenyan fintech startup Shield Finance.

The rest of the list is made up of Ugandan eco-friendly stove manufacturers Green Bio Energy, Rwandan agriculture startup Lotec, Kenyan prepaid water metre company Maji Milele, Kenyan end-to-end waste management services firm Taka Taka Solutions, Tanzanian waste management company The Recycler, and Kenyan coffee company Vava Coffee.

The winners of the Sankalp Award will receive the opportunity to pitch to Intellecap’s exclusive group of investors, gain significant global exposure through the Sankalp Summits in India, Kenya and Indonesia, and access to capacity building support for investment readiness from Intellecap and its partners.

Over the last 2 years, Intellecap has reviewed over 500 African enterprises and screens them on an ongoing basis to select the most investment ready as finalists of the Sankalp Award program.

In the past, the Sankalp Forum has recognised over 100 enterprises, which have gone on to raise US$120 million in cumulative investments. Last year’s winner, Kigali Farms, was the first African winner to receive an investment through Sankalp’s support after they raised US$200,000 from Intellecap’s Impact Investment Network.
