Kenyan taxi hailing app Easy Taxi has launched Easy Taxi Pay, an in-app cashless payment option that allows customers to add their credit or debit cards and pay for a ride by simply tapping their smartphone screen.

The new payment option on Easy Taxi also provides a detailed summary of payment information after each ride via email, with users now able to pay via Easy Taxi Pay, cash or M-Pesa directly to the driver.

“Easy Taxi is excited to provide customers with the option of paying for their rides using their credit/debit cards. With this new mode of payment, we hope to further enhance our customer’s convenience and overall experience,” said Lauren Gray, marketing director of Easy Taxi.

Easy Taxi has partnered Amsterdam-based payment services company Adyen to ensure security, with Adyen to process the credit and debit transactions.

To use the new service, customers need to add their card details before requesting a taxi, click payment and select the Easy Taxi Pay option. The app can store details for multiple cards, while as part of the launch of the new payment option Easy Taxi is offering passengers KES500 (US$5) off their first ride using the new option.

To redeem this offer, customers should select the “Easy Taxi Pay” method prior to requesting your ride, and when verifying mode of payment at the end of the ride select the option for “Add promo code” and type ‘ETPLAUNCH’ into the field. The promotion is valid throughout the rest of this month.
