Egypt-based online gaming community GBarena has secured an undisclosed amount of seed funding in order to continue to grow within the Middle East region.

Founded by Samer Wagdy, Mustafa Zaza and Bishoy Mesdary, GBarena is an online gaming community that connects gamers to global tournaments and challenges, and provides organisers with a tournament management platform.

The platform makes it easy for organisers to create, publish and manage their tournaments, while gamers simply log in to the platform using Facebook, choose their favourite game titles, and enter tournaments.

GBarena has now secured seed investment from HIMangel, a leading angel investment fund in Africa and the Middle East, as it looks to continue on its growth trajectory in the region.

“At HIMangel, we look for startups that have identified a “blue ocean” to compete in. This certainly applies to GBarena, which is a clear leader in the eSports industry in the entire Middle East,” said Khaled Ismail, chairman of HIMangel.

“We believe that working together with the passionate and capable team of GBarena, we will be able to grow in an exponential fashion within the coming near future.”
