African programming accelerator Andela is looking for its first all-female cohort in Kenya, inviting applications to join its seventh fellowship cohort in the country in May.
Launched in Nigeria in September 2014, Andela identifies talented young Africans and trains them to become top developers for global firms. With an only one per cent acceptance rate, Andela claims to be the most selective tech training programme on the African continent.
The company launched in Kenya in July of last year, with its sixth programme beginning this month. The four-year, paid technical leadership programmes are designed to shape young Africans into elite software developers.
“We are looking for talented, ambitious women with an interest in technology who are looking to inspire the youth with their newly acquired skills,” Andela said.
After completing an initial phase of technical and soft skills training, fellows join as a member of a remote team with one of Andela’s partner companies around the world within six months.
“You’ll get to apply your new knowledge to real work, while Andela provides you with ongoing professional development and coaching to ensure that you evolve with the industry and graduate with the maximum potential for long term success. Many of our fellows have travelled to client sites in New York, San Francisco, Arusha, London, and Lagos.”
Applications are open for the all-female cohort until April 8, after which candidates will be interviewed between April 20 and April 22. A bootcamp will take place between April 25 and May 6, with the seventh programme in Kenya running for four years from May.
