Subsea cable operator SEACOM has announced it is to provide high speed internet connectivity to Ugandan tech incubator hubs Hive Colab and Outbox, extending its support for innovation centres in East Africa.

Aside from Hive Colab and Outbox, SEACOM also supports Kenyan hubs Nailab, Nairobi Garage and m:lab East Africa, as well as KINU in Tanzania.

The latest deals will see SEACOM provide 20mbps connectivity to the two Kampala-based hubs, both of which support local developers and entrepreneurs in developing innovative products.

“This investment in bandwidth falls in line with SEACOM’s commitment to supporting technology innovation in Africa and to helping Uganda’s technology industry capitalise on the opportunities of broadband internet,” said Joseph Muriithi, SEACOM managing director (MD) for Kenya and regional head of sales for North and East Africa.

Muriithi said the company would continue supporting the growth of broadband penetration in the region.
