Uganda’s Fezah and Egypt’s Edfa3ly have been named two of the 15 startups selected to participate in the Blackbox Connect entrepreneurship programme in Silicon Valley.

Blackbox Connect brings together selected startups from across the world – in Silicon Valley – for an immersive two-week programme involving meetings and workshops with entrepreneurs, investors, experts and executives.

15 startups were chosen from around the world for the winter 2015 cohort, to take place between February 9 and 20; with two of the chosen startups representing Africa’s startup ecosystem.

Fezah is a marketplace for performing artists and venues across Africa. The startup also helps upcoming artists raise money for their projects.

Edfa3ly is the leading cross-border e-commerce company in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, offering cost effective delivery and payment logistics solutions for the region.

The other participants in the 10th cohort of Blackbox Connect represent Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, India, Ireland, Israel, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Korea, United Arab Emirates, and United Kingdom.

The programme will cover topics such as how to engage effectively with investors – including pitching training -, the basics of investment and equity options, and how to recruit and scale a startup; while participants will also attend a range of networking and professional events.

The Blackbox Connect programme is powered by Google for Entrepreneurs, and is open exclusively to the Google for Entrepreneurs partner network. This year three new partners were added to the network, including Uganda’s Outbox – the incubation space where Fezah is based.
